Dir: Martin McDonagh | Ireland / UK / USA | 2022 | 114 mins
Cast | Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Barry Keoghan
Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson reteam with In Bruges director, Irish-English playwright and Oscar-winning director Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) in The Banshees of Inisherin – a melancholic, frequently hilarious and richly moving black comedy that’s being hailed as McDonagh’s finest work yet.
On a remote island off the coast of Ireland, Padraic (Farrell) is devastated when his friend Colm (Gleeson) suddenly puts an end to their lifelong friendship. With help from his sister and a troubled young islander, Padraic sets out to repair the damage by any means necessary. But Colm's resolve only strengthens, and he soon delivers an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences. Featuring terrific performances from Farrell and Gleeson – full of vulnerability and rage – and supporting players Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan, it’s given extra depth by McDonagh’s superbly funny dialogue and keen, mythic eye for the tragicomic absurdities of life.
Please note the screenings on Thursday 17 November will be captioned.
