Widowed marine biologist Abel (Garrel) is dismayed to learn that his impulsive mum (Anouk Grinberg) is set to marry an inmate she met teaching theatre in prison. Doubting that convicted burglar Michel (Roschdy Zem) is capable of turning over a new leaf, Abel begins tailing his new stepfather with the help of his best friend (Noémie Merlant). But Michel quickly uncovers their amateur sleuthing, triggering an unlikely business proposition for them both…
