Dementia Friendly Screening: A Matter of Life or Death (U)

A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (U)

Dir: Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger | UK | 1946 | 104 mins
Cast | David Niven, Roger Livesey, Kim Hunter, Marius Goring

This is a dementia friendly screening. Please note the house lights will be slightly raised throughout to provide a more relaxed and comfortable setting. Everyone is welcome to attend this screening, but we ask that you are mindful of the context and understand that people may need to regularly leave and return to the screening.

Powell and Pressburger’s iconic romantic fantasy is full of ambition, wit and visual flair.

David Niven is Peter Carter, a young WWII airman who jumps out of a damaged plane without a parachute. But instead of dying, he finds himself unharmed on a beach. Encountering a young American servicewoman – with whom he falls in love – he finds he must appeal to a celestial jury for his right to live, trapped between a Technicolor earth and a monochrome heaven.

A beautifully crafted dream by a filmmaking duo whose remarkable creativity and influence still reverberate through British and world cinema.
